I know there is some familiarity..but BEYOND that, Steve knows all the key things:
He knows its got to SOUND good, he knows its got to be true to how the artist is understood, and he "gets" NY old school.
This is not to belittle NY old school -sound...its powerful stuff and I think Lil Steven can get this on tape.
I wouldnt suggest him otherwise.
Ronnie, If you read this...maybe consider my suggestion. I think you need to sandwich your talent with the best. With Steven producing, maybe a guest solo by Clarence Clemmons..a good song by Jeff Barry or E Greenwich...I think it puts you in a good place. And newer material that comes from that understanding might be good, as well.
I am impressed that you'd ask about this on the forum..but then again, you always seemed smart.
Keep Rockin', Ronnie. -George
